On September 7, Mr. Selassie Beckley, the Minister of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity of Ethiopia, paid a visit to Sichuan University and gave a special report for our teachers and students after attending the 2018 Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). President Li Yanrong met with him at the VIP Hall of Mingde Building, Wangjiang Campus. Vice President Yan Shijing and heads of other departments attended the meeting.
On behalf of Sichuan University, Mr. Li Yanrong welcomed the visit of Mr. Selassie Beckley and briefly introduced SCU. He pointed out that China and Ethiopia have established a close and friendly relationship. Sichuan University boasts a long history and complete disciplines, including well-established water resources, hydropower and electrical engineering. He hoped that the exchanges between Sichuan University and Ethiopia in sci-tech and education can be further promoted and the cooperation in professional talents such as water conservancy, hydropower, electric power and economic management can be deepened through this visit, which will then make due contributions to the development of friendly relations between the two countries.
Mr. Selassie Beckley said he was honored to visit Sichuan University and expressed his gratitude for our hospitality. He pointed out that Ethiopia and China are comprehensive strategic partners with a long history of cooperation. Sichuan University is well-known in China, and has long enjoyed a good reputation in the whole world. At present, Ethiopia is vigorously improving the development capability and quality of scientific research and higher education. He hoped to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan University, which is believed to benefit Ethiopia a lot.
After the meeting, Mr. Selassie Beckley gave a keynote speech on the current status and prospects of Ethiopia’s water conservancy and hydropower to the teachers and students of SCU in the 2nd conference room on the 4th floor of Mingde Building, Wangjiang Campus. Vice President Yan Shijing presided over the lecture.
